We wanted to develop a medicine that offers people with dependence to heroin or opioid painkillers a new treatment, that could reduce the burden with daily treatments, misuse and stigma living with drug dependence. Giving people a better chance to normalise and rebuild their lives – free from the constraints of daily medications. Based on an already know and approved medicine for opioid treatment, Buvidal is an enhanced design solution that deliver the medicine through a syringe using the FluidCrystal® technology resulting in an innovative monthly or weekly treatment in a single injection that cannot be diverted or misused by the patient, accidentally exposed to children and can be stored at room temperature. The design of Buvidal improves patient’s treatment satisfaction, quality of life and help to reduce the use of illicit drugs. Buvidal supports the local communities’ efforts to address the social burden from opioid dependence aiming at reducing crime, homelessness, and poverty.
