Despite what most people think, the threat of a nuclear weapon going off and causing a catastrophe of historic scale is not solved. In fact, it’s more probable now than before the fall of the Berlin Wall. The world clearly could use an infusion of new ideas about how to solve this wicked problem that seems to be getting more complex. The nuclear security sector could use an influx of innovators, experts and entrepreneurs accustomed to collaborative problem-solving in a highly networked world. We will pull together those innovators and attempt to come up with many new ideas in this series by working through six areas that provide fertile grounds for breakthrough progress. Our explicit goal is to surface new ideas, or to combine existing ideas in new ways, in order to reinvigorate a national conversation about this critical issue of updating nuclear security for the 21st century.
