Kunan
Upcycling through weaving
Kunan is a brand that uses the artisan horizontal loom as a means to recycle, and turn waste into new fabrics. This brand is inspired by the Colombian Andean cultures that inhabited the high mountains and wove for long hours to create blankets.
Coming from an area with a climate like this is romance and solitude. Clothing is not an accessory, it is a shell, a defense and protection mechanism. We embody a character that hides between layers and layers a universe rich in secrets and stories, some fantastic and others that come from the grandmother, where the moral that prevails will always be care and closeness with Pacha Mama. (Burn Magazine, 2020)
In this collection, three fabrics were developed with different residues from the textile industry; in the first, fabrics from the dead inventory of Paloma & Angostura were used; in the second, old sheets donated by the Elis Colombia company; and in the third, scraps of denim generated on the cutting table, waste from the pre-consumer stage.
