Oceanium is developing food & nutrition products and marine-safe, home compostable bio-packaging materials from sustainably-farmed seaweed. Our impact mission is to enable a sustainable seaweed farming industry to mitigate climate change, ensure food security and create jobs across the value chain. We will enable this nascent industry in the western hemisphere by developing products for the super high-growth markets of plant-based food products and sustainable packaging. Sustainably-farmed seaweed provides numerous environmental, economic and societal benefits. Seaweed farming does not require cleared land which means that deforestation is not necessary, unlike many other agricultural products. Seaweed sequesters carbon dioxide from the oceans which reduces atmospheric carbon and ocean acidification. If 9% of the ocean was dedicated to seaweed farming, that could remove 53 billion tons of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere each year.
