PseudoFreeze consists of a refrigeration system that does not need electricity. It is based on a protein originally produced by a bacterium, Pseudomonas syringae, which is present in the environment and is responsible for forming hail and snow. In ski resorts this protein is used when it is not cold enough to artificially form snow.PseudoFreeze worked in collaboration with the company SNOMAX to access the protein and by means of nanotechnology they achieved the effect of freezing with water at 4ºC and its maintenance for a period of one to three weeks. The first application of this bio-nanotechnology is a container, PseudoFridge, for the transport of vaccines to rural areas. The container was ergonomically designed to avoid back problems for those who must carry it, prevents the rupture of vaccines, has a greater storage capacity and a lower weight than traditional refrigerators.
