The Ocean Cleanup is aimed at environmentally friendly, large-scale and efficient removal of plastic pollution from aquatic ecosystems, while increasing awareness by simultaneously communicating this process intensively. Using floating barriers and platforms attached to the sea bed, the ‘cleaner’ concentrates the plastic before extracting it from the ocean — a collection process 100% driven by natural winds and currents. The system can also be easily implemented in all major seas, making a mass ocean clean-up feasible in the future.
