With The Growing Pavilion we show the possibilities and the enormous beauty of biobased and circular construction. Any material, such as the mycelium walls and cattail floorboards, are visible in its natural raw material. In this way, the pavilion gets a unique, organic texture, color and experience. We promote this beauty as a force. A new aesthetic that gives biobased materials their own, wonderful identity. The pavilion shows what the near future will bring in the field of biobased construction. We place ourselves in a vulnerable position as well, because our ideal pavilion houses many new organically grown materials. But, it takes more than good materials to make large-scale applications possible: upscaling of production; appropriate regulations; innovative designers and conscious consumers. The Growing Pavilion puts this issue on the agenda, because it is essential to achieve the desired transition to a biobased and circular economy.
