Synapse
design better cities with AI, Data, and nano-materials
Synapse is an interactive device that uses Nano-material, data-driven strategies and artificial intelligence to record and analyze the way people behave in buildings and cities. Designers and decision-makers often lack accurate, real time information about how citizens use cities and are thus forced to make critical design decisions based on established formulae and speculation. Synapse provides powerful new tools for changing this. The project uses capacitive sensing technology and surface-embedded Nano-particles to sense how individuals occupy and use spaces. Using machine-learning algorithms, the system analyzes the gathered data to reconfigure the space and optimize its settings according to the users’ behavior. With this knowledge, architects and urban administrators can design with greater confidence and sensitivity.
