Troitsk Central Square
The project provides for a system of interconnected public spaces of various functional purposes.
The main square of the city was heavily rebuilt during the Soviet period. The cathedral was replaced by an inexpressive three-story administration building, and the once unified public space was separated into functionless parts. The project provides for a system of interconnected public spaces of various functional purposes forming a high-quality and diverse urban environment (city events, recreation, playgrounds, shopping). To harmonize the history with the future, a memorial square with a bust of Lenin is preserved, and the place where the cathedral stood is signified by paving. The faceless building of the Soviet period in the center is decorated with a colonnade as the resulting large space needs a large-scale architecture. The transformation of the square should be the beginning of a strategy for restoring and preserving the city’s historical, town planning and natural environment.
