The future of storytelling: The problem with the novel, apparently, is the form in which it is delivered — in tech speak, the “user interface”. Thankfully, there’s an app for that. It’s called Hooked, and it tells short stories in the form of 1,000-word text-message chats. It may sound tedious, but it has quietly become a phenomenon. Last year the three-year-old company passed 40m downloads, topped the British charts in the Apple and Android app stores, and lured a starry cast of investors from media investment tycoon Peter Chernin to megastar rapper Snoop Dogg.
