24-hour Running Water in Siyazan
A new project is solving the Siyazan challenge of having water access for only 4 hours a day.
Clean drinking water is a challenge for most parts of Azerbaijan. People often drink from rivers, which isn’t always safe. But in the particular region of Siyazan, water hasn't been the sole problem, because of the pipeline to Baku. Getting water to the houses has been the main difficulty. A local citizen explains that for 23 years that he's lived there, his street didn’t have water. Instead water came from a tank truck giving the local people access to clean water 4 hours a day. Now, supported by The World Bank, a water reservoir project has given the people of Siyazan access to clean water 24-hours a day. The clean water comes from a reservoir up in the hills above town. Water utility workers control the reservoir through a new pumping station. With support from the World Bank, the government of Azerbaijan is using part of its oil wealth to improve water.
