This magenta themed restaurant connects diners just as how #OMG links users on social media.
#OMG is a popular hashtag on social media platforms. Hashtags allow users to express feelings and connect posts with the same tag. The designers have incorporated concepts related to the Internet and social media in the design of this Japanese restaurant. Its theme color, magenta, resembles Japan’s iconic sakura and their red and white flag,
Custom-made magenta lamps on the ceiling criss-cross each other to form a zigzag pattern. They represent pixelated images when a picture is being immensely enlarged, and illustrate how the Internet connects people around the world. Echoing with the lamps, the floor patterns are also in zigzag shape. Customized homogeneous tiles and magenta grouting in the cracks form zigzag patterns on the floor, which matches with other decorations.
Square tables and chairs, together with solid surfacing booth seating imitate rigid and angular pixels. The edges of the tables are painted in white oak color for decoration.
