Light and Shadow
This design improve life by providing light during the night and shadow during the day.
The idea of this project is giving poor people free light in their neighborhoods at night and shadow during the day. Some of these neighborhoods don’t have any street lights nor do they have vegetation and public spaces. This raises an issue especially in summer as there are no shadows in the entire neighborhood to hide from the sun. It’s also completely dark a nights making the streets dangerous.
The concept is to fill the neighborhoods with street lights containing two layers : The outer layer is made of solar cells and the inner layer is made of glowing textile. The solar cells absorb light during the day to power the textile at night. In addition to the lighting, each module can take different shapes and forms and translates on the cable. Depending on needs, changing the shapes and locations of the lights can create bigger or smaller shadows. This also offers the residents a spectacle of light and shadow.
