Electronically Controlled Gravity Feed (ECGF) Infusion Set

In Uganda, 190,000 children under 5 die annually due to treatable diseases. It is estimated that over 10% of children admitted to East African hospitals require immediate infusion treatment. Of these, approx. 11-12% die within hours of admission. Fluid and drug therapy is done manually causing inaccuracies, existing infusion pumps are imported and costly (2500+ USD). The ECGF add-on device accurately infuses fluids and drugs intravenously and can be clamped onto any drip equipment available on the market. It monitors and controls the drop rate with an overall accuracy of ±10% . It utilizes both mains and solar, therefore appropriate for use in rural areas of Uganda where power supply is unreliable. The user interface has been iteratively designed with extensive clinician input for ease of use at a unit cost of ~ 100USD. It is estimated that over 130,000 children/year will be positively impacted by this device improving patient care, safety and saving lives.
