Solid State Plasma Light
A fingertip-sized light bulb powerful enough for area, architectural and industrial lighting

It’s estimated that lighing America, both residential and commercial sectors, accounts for around 7% of the country’s total energy usage. This poses a great opportunity to significantly reduce energy usage and global carbon emissions. By replacing your home's five most frequently used light fixtures or bulbs with low-energy models, it estimated that consumers can save around $75 each year.

“Although it’s the size of a fingertip, the [Solid State Plasma Light] is powerful enough for area, architectural and industrial lighting,” explained Gregg Hollingsworth, Chief Architect and Vice President of Product Development at Luxim.

While the initial price of energy-efficient bulbs is typically higher than traditional incandescents, newer bulbs cost less to operate, saving you money over the life of the bulb. The Solid State Plasma Lights have a very long life, approximately 30,000 hours, and are dimmable to 20%. They operate using digital controls, in all orientations and double the output of high-end led bulbs through heat management.

“We’re already working on much higher power, too,” says Hollingsworth. “Something in the range of 55,000 to 100,000 lumens, and with half as much power as current products at this level.”

“It’s really pretty cool to be able to look at this and be able to make these things and be able to create this sort of performance. You get a nice feeling when you look at the numbers and realize, ‘Wow, we’re saving people money on their electricity costs’ — and that, of course, runs to your carbon emissions.
