Taman Film
Taman Film is the first unique, designed multifunctional public space in Bandung, Indonesia
This is a story about public space acupuncture which has turned a previously deserted zone into a design hotspot in Bandung. Like in most developing cities, privatization is everywhere, while quality public space is rare. Taman Film ingeniously transforms the unused slope under a highway into a multifunctional zone. Flexibility underlines the design concept allowing diverse activities -from playground, hang-out area, stage for various public events, movie screening- can all take place. The design is inspired by Bandung’s wild topography. Its fluid form invites people to interact and mingle. It consists of amphitheater seats and stage equipped with a large LCD screen. The form is not arbitrary; each circular element is meant to seat various group sizes based on social behavior research. The green carpet at the bottom of the park invites residents to take off their shoes, a distinct Indonesian way to appreciate a space. Taman film contributes to the livability and creativity of the city.
