HIPCARE
3D-printed splint for hip dysplasia treatment in babies
How does it work?
HIPCARE is a 3D printed preconfigured splint made of copper particles and PLA, the design is achieved through a 3D model of the baby's body derived from radiography results.
Why is it needed?
According to the International Hip Dysplasia Institute, 1 in every 100 babies spend 3/4 months of their lives with more than 70% of their body immobilized due to the treatment of the plaster cast.
How does it improve life?
Hipcare takes care of the baby, securing the correct immobilization during the post-surgery healing process while enabling proper hygienic conditions. The design comes with a unique strategy to promote better hygiene: by adopting a lattice structure and copper particles, an antibacterial, breathable and washable splint was achieved.
