Temporary settlements for slums
Portable solution for temporary settlement
How does it work?
The design of a module/prototype is suitable for the lifestyle of self-sustaining migrants, which is a flexible and incremental modular structure that supports the steady flow of migration. Besides, the system develops a construction method that can survive without particular discourse.
Why is it needed?
A slum is a residential area that has been developed without legal claims to the land and permission from the concerned authorities to build; due to their illegal or semi-legal status, infrastructure and services are usually inadequate. The portable settlements target a repetitive poverty cycle due to the scarcity of land, a large migration of the working population and a poor living environment. The objective of the study is to analyze the architectural and planning characteristics of migrants living in slums and thereby develop a solution that deals with the economic, social, and regional environment of the place.
How does it improve life?
This project uses all the local materials available to build it with the concept of self-help so the user can quickly build the structure. Furthermore, it nourishes a flexible society with acceptance towards migrants and celebrates the area's essence through architecture by providing a sustainable solution.
