Bambass
A sustainable open-back headphone made of bamboo
How does it work?
Aakansh Chaturvedi’s Bambass headphone set pays respect to bamboo workmanship, has the capacity to be mass-produced, and provides electronic items with a new creative direction. The body is mostly comprised of thin coiled bamboo stripes that effectively insulate sound. The resilience and flexibility of stacked bamboo stripes are employed to build the headband, which is reinforced by a stainless steel strip that provides a pleasant grasp overhead.
Why is it needed?
Plastic waste is a major environmental problem and is produced by a wide range of industries, with the electronics industry being no exception. With this in mind, designer Aakansh Chaturvedi from the Indian Institute of Technology in Bombay has developed ‘Bambass,’ a sustainable open-back headphone made of bamboo.
How does it improve life?
Bambass is more sustainable than traditional plastic headphones, as more than 70% of the material used is eco-friendly or recyclable. The design integrates traditional bamboo processing methods and craftsmanship techniques, giving the product an Indian cultural touch while maintaining its modern aesthetic.
