Tred
A green debit card that helps fight climate change effortlessly, every time it is used.
How does it work?
Tred allows the consumer to track their carbon footprint as they spend; it calculates the carbon emissions of every transaction, giving an accurate, personalised carbon footprint. With a new layer of insight, Tred allows a detailed breakdown of the environmental impact of every transaction. Motivating and educating the consumer to change some aspects of their lifestyle, Tred also recommends sustainable switches so that the impact can become more effective. Additionally, Tred offers offsetting solutions, so the amount offset is tailored to the individual carbon footprint and will balance the emissions. These offsetting plans are directed to verified projects that remove or prevent carbon emissions. Even on a budget, they are personalised to an individual’s situation, so no one is left behind.
Why is it needed?
Carbon emission tracking can be challenging and abstract at times, but it has become an imperative action to make an immediate change. By combining banking and CO2 tracking, Tred allows the consumer to be aware of daily spending and emissions. When the intentions are good, an individual is not only in control of their money, but carbon-emitting becomes more palpable and understandable. It helps people understand their choices' impact on the planet, so fighting for climate change effortlessly, every time someone spends.
How does it improve life?
Taking aside their true intentions on fighting climate change, Tred's culture around working rights is also an aspect to consider. Certified by the Living Wage Foundation as a living wage employer, ensuring their employees are paid a living wage, which is significantly higher than the minimum wage and is calculated according to the living costs. Not only that, but they are their way to being a B Corporation, a type of business that meets the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance and is legally accountable for balancing purpose with profit. When considering these intentions, Tred offers a complete package on how they work towards improving lives with design.
