Intelligent Traffic Control
Measuring traffic, predicting congestion and mitigating it
How does it work?
ITC's cutting-edge computer vision algorithm uses off-the-shelf cameras (already installed in numerous intersections) to obtain live traffic data. Their algorithms are sensitive enough to correctly identify 99% of vehicles, as well as buses, ambulances, bikers and pedestrians, and detecting a range of parameters about these objects' behaviours. Using advanced machine learning techniques and mountains of traffic data they’ve accumulated, they’re able to accurately predict traffic patterns - hours in advance. They can tell exactly where and when traffic will start to overflow. By dynamically altering traffic light programming, ITC can adjust the traffic flow through intersections to mitigate congestion in advance - thus preventing jams and gridlocks and ensuring safe and fast travel for all road users.
Why is it needed?
The average driver spends 3 days every year stuck in traffic. Americans lose more than $100B every year in lost labour and gas due to traffic jams. Congestion accounts for 25% of car greenhouse gas emissions. More than 40% of traffic accidents occur in intersections. By detecting potential collisions in real-time and rapidly calculating potential responses, we can prevent tens of thousands of deaths per year.
How does it improve life?
ITC - Intelligent Traffic Control is the winner of the 2022 Bouygues Construction energy and smart transportation challenge at Viva Technology Paris. They are also engaged in projects in Europe.
