Perovskia Solar
Printed solar cells for any electronic device
How does it work?
Perovskia solar makes digitally printed solar cells that are seamlessly integrated into any IoT device. They provide custom design solar cells for smartwatches, trackers, smart homes, consumer electronics, or any smart device fully operational also in indoor light.
The printing technology allows the creation of customised solar cells that integrate seamlessly with every smart device design. Perovskite material enables cells to operate in low-light conditions.
Why is it needed?
13% of the world does not have access to electricity. And although global access to electricity has been steadily rising in recent decades, this figure is still unacceptably high — and gains in access are moving much too slow to reach our goal of universal access by 2030. This is particularly true for Sub-Saharan Africa — despite the share of the population with electricity rising steadily, population growth meant that the total number of people without access was on the rise until 2016. Accelerated progress will be needed to ensure this number now continues to fall (Our World in Data).
How does it improve life?
Perovskia’s vision is to enable a solar cell on every device. In December 2021, Perovskia launched the first energy self-sufficient device for a med-tech wearable customer in Switzerland. The device runs autonomously with Perovskia solar cells and eliminates the need for a battery or charging.
