Dida
Interactive smart doll to teach children about sexual boundaries
How does it work?
Dida is build and based on the concept of providing comprehensive sex education for kits. Through "traffic lights" it lets the users know which areas of the bodies are private and intimate. The red light on a body part means only oneself can touch this area while a yellow light indicates that an area can only be touched by someone close to the user and after obtaining the user's consent.
The physical doll is also supported by an interactive online platform through an app.
Why is it needed?
In China, there's no national sexuality education curriculum. This means many students have a poor understanding of consent, contraceptives and sexually transmitted infections.
Survey results published this year by the China Family Planning Association and Tsinghua University found that 52% of the 54,580 university students polled had received sex education. However, in a survey with nine basic questions about sexual health, fewer than one-third of the students were able to answer six or more questions correctly. More than 8 per cent answered every question incorrectly (South China Morning Post).
How does it improve life?
The doll wants to provide parents with a safe space for learning and talking about sex education with their kids.
