Thinking with Card
Integrating active learning and hands-on making into the regular STEM curriculum.
This project brings active learning into the regular STEM curriculum in order to promote craft, design and making activities while also encouraging more inclusive approaches to learning. The resources are aimed at Key Stage 2 and 3 students (UK) and Middle School students (China) and are suitable for use at school or home. The project was launched in July 2020 in response to the pandemic and corresponding need for diverse and stimulating teaching resources. The website contains a series of free downloadable models which can be printed and constructed using simple tools. The models help students understand complex concepts which can be difficult to grasp from textbooks or even demonstrations (e.g. the relationship between magnetism and electricity, or the function of a four-stroke engine). They also help students commit information to memory that they need to accurately recall later on. The physical nature of these resources is particularly helpful for dyslexic students.
