Don't Hurt - biofilm armchair
To do something for animals is also to do for the whole planet, because everything is connected.
Contesting the current situation, and causing reflection on animal exploitation and its environmental impacts, such as deforestation and zoonoses associated with the agricultural industry, is the aim of Don’t Hurt, a metal armchair that uses biofilm as an alternative to leather covering. Developed in collaboration with microorganisms from the kombucha drink, the biofilm can grow in any shape and size, placing water, coffee, sugar and a culture of bacteria in a container, and leaving it static for about two weeks. It can acquire textures, pigmentation and waterproofing with natural products such as wax and vegetable oil, beet, wine, fruits and other agricultural wastes. Its activist concept, together with its striking aspects, make the object a demonstrator for the use of a leather-like material, which is biodegradable and doesn’t have any chemicals. A new experience with furniture that does not bring animal suffering into your home.
