The NICU can be a stressful environment for parents and newborns - factors such as noise and light impacting physical and neurological development. We aim to create a holistic, technology-enabled single-family patient room environment that helps clinicians and families provide the best care for the baby to improve longterm health outcomes. The design is the result of co-creation between several disciplines including clinicians, scientists, architects, fabricators, digital designers, and software developers. The solution consists of the Adaptive Environment platform that provides contextual lighting presets, sound/odor monitoring and virtual views to nature in order to support the needs of baby, families and clinicians during the long stay in the NICU. The space is designed to support a new tool, the Collaborative Dashboard informatics platform which consolidates hospital data into a holistic view to promote actionable collaborative care among clinicians and family along the footwall.
