Smart Distancing Systems (SDS)
By intelligently using visually attractive shapes, social distancing can now be more functional.
By intelligently using visually attractive shapes, social distancing can now be more enjoyable, more beautiful and above all, more functional than before. Marking distances and spaces by using tape and stickers will become unnecessary. Van der Wiel and Verstand have been thinking about ways how to facilitate the one-and-a-half-meter society, from a cultural perspective. Giving people more freedom and possibilities while being on a suitable distance was key to this project. A combination of motion tracking technology and computer directed lasers show a lively interplay of lines on the floor, depending on people’s presence. This way, people can move safely through public spaces such as: train stations, airports, museums, shopping malls etc. Through it’s practical application, this art project can give our society a boost on a social as well as an economical level. The visual applications of the lasers are endless. For example, by using circles, the one-and-a-half meter zones.
