HEAR
Learning aid that enables hearing-impaired students to attend mainstream lessons
HEAR for deaf children is a project that aims to give back the freedom to learn to hearing impaired students. Hearing impaired students are increasingly put into mainstream schools where there are no specialist provisions. The National Deaf Children’s society found that the average grade for deaf children is a D grade. For children with no disability, it is a strong C.
HEAR aims to close the grade gap for children with a hearing impairment without the cost of additional specialist staff. The biggest pain-point for hearing impaired students is the natural decline in academic performance due to difficulty when understanding all the information presented to them. This device will be an assisted learning aid that will help the child actively take part in lessons and revisit anything they have misunderstood in their own time.
