Ulmer Nest
Helping homeless people not freeze to death, and being a contact point to get in touch w/ them.
It started as a think tank project of 3 startups, presented with the task to create a "frostbite shelter" for a specific part of the homeless in the city of Ulm, Germany. Instead of just focusing on the bare life-saving qualities, the team used their skills in design, processes and technology to create a solution which not only prevents people from freezing to death, but also integrating it through IoT technologies into city-wide processes to provide support and assistance to the people sleeping in the shelters. This makes the Ulmer Nests a unprecedented contact point to get in touch and look after a previously mostly invisible part of the homeless people population.
