Playground Design Park Nuevo Mexico
Will provide safe and accessible public space for 70,000 children from low income neighborhoods
The park is located in a municipality with great diversity, however, its streets and public spaces have deteriorated, and the few green areas are private. The municipality is battling with high rates of crime, urban marginalization and population density.
CONCEPT - The intervention was mainly thought under the premises Rehabilitation, Accessibility, Reconnection, and Inclusion. The original rescue of the area as a playground was proposed, based on Tactical Urbanism and the use of simple materials (concrete, rubber, sand, vegetation) and a vivid color pallet. Simple areas were designed with games of basic shapes, which allow children to develop their creativity. The rugged topography was used to implement play hills taking into account the existing trees and leaving these areas permeable. The playground is reconnected with the school in front through a large pedestrian stop and a ramp. Specific seating points were designed so that parents can have eyes on children at all times.
