Improving Working Conditions in the Ready-Made Garment Sector
Improving Working Conditions in the Ready-Made Garment Sector Programme In Bangladesh is an initiative of the Government of Bangladesh, implemented by International Labour Organization and funded by Canada, the Netherlands and the UK. The three-and-a-half year initiative focuses on improving RMG factory building safety, workers’ rights and overall working conditions in Bangladesh. Over the past decade the RMG sector has witnessed a number of industrial accidents including the fire at Tazreen Fashions and collapse of Rana Plaza which claimed the lives of over 1,200 of workers. In response, the Government of Bangladesh and development partners have mobilised unprecedented support and made commitments to improve working conditions and workers’ safety in the RMG industry. The ILO Programme on Improving Working Conditions in the Ready-Made Garment Sector was developed to support the interventions identified in the National Tripartite Plan of Action on Fire Safety & Building Integrity.
