Re:Style 2020
Repurposed car parts in fashion
Hyundai has launched the Re:Style 2020 collection made from upcycled, repurposed car parts that would have otherwise ended up in a landfill, not being included in a recycling program. Hyundai brought on several trendy fashion brands like Alighieri, E.L.V. DENIM, pushBUTTON, Richard Quinn and Rosie Assoulin. The collection includes statement jewellery (chockers, bracelets and earrings), a denim jumpsuit, a couple of vests, a corset, and a very chic handbag, all of them made from materials that would have otherwise been thrown away like seatbelts, airbags and seat fabrics. The goal of the collection is to highlight sustainable fashion by upcycling discarded materials from the automotive manufacturing process. So while it won’t actually make a significant difference in terms of pollution (given the small number of items made), it stands as a powerful statement on what can be done if there’s a will – and an encouragement to others to follow suit.
