The Village of Hope
This model maintains a balanced resiliency, a humanity of diversity able to change with the times.
After Kathleen Gillespie, CEO of Mature Resources Foundation, established her first dementia unit in the 1990's, she had a resident's family member say, "If it were me, I would simply want to know there is Hope." From there, Ms. Gillespie's Vision was to create a community where "neighbors help neighbors" who are living with cognitive decline to have purpose and connection, where those with special needs can live successfully with people of all ages and abilities and where kinship families can find the support they need. Hence, A Village of Hope was born. The Village of Hope transforms a decommissioned school property and its surrounding 23-acre rural setting into a model community designed in partnership with Dr. Bill Thomas and MINKA Homes and Communities. MINKA homes, in various occupancy models, are optimized to help people move, eat, sleep and heal due to innovative, built-in technology. Here, people stay in control of where and how they live while enriching the community.
