Emergency calls made easy for the deaf
How do the deaf reach out for help during an emergency?
Introducing Deaf 911. Using text-to-speech and speech-to-text technology, this app reduces the time it takes the deaf to call for help. Because it allows the deaf to speak directly to 911—and 911 to text back.
The app can also provide quick response to questions with the help of smart reply messaging. By researching the most common responses, our messaging options save even more valuable seconds by replacing actual texting with a simple tap, or two.
Other technology either isn’t available or takes too long. Text-to-911 is available in less than 10% of the US. Relay-operator calls can take 3 minutes or longer. Teletypewriting takes more than 8 minutes. Deaf 911 takes as little as 30 seconds.
