The Ekasi Water Cap is a specially designed pressure tight closure that transforms locally available parts - a standard 25 litre water container (commonly used for water collection and storage in unplumbed homes), plastic piping and a bicycle pump - into a portable pressurised shower unit. This not only enables a shower experience, but also strengthens the township’s culture of adhoc problem solving. This project is an exploration into the idea of appropriate and human centred technology, where simple inventions introduced to an underserved user group in the right form can be enabling and improve quality of life.
