Design Against Cyclone Odisha
it will open a door for design community of world to discuss in a wider point of views.
Odisha, the Indian state known for its rich art, crafts, dance, architecture and natural resources; has been facing cyclones frequently every year, which disrupts its socioeconomically growth. The most recent one, few month back - the horrifying super cyclone ‘FANI’, destroyed many villages, ravaged in the world-famous heritage district – Puri in particular. The major population, who are artisans and crafts-men in the affected region, lost their livelihood as their artifacts, handicrafts and miniature paintings along with their villages were completely destroyed, pulling back by at least a decade in reintegration. Also you never know it may repeat again. The time has come to design sustainable solutions for those entire craftsmen’s village including their livelihood that would withstand such super cyclones without loosing their hope in continuing their cultural practice.
