En Kitchen
A sustainable replacement that rids over one million plastic eating ware during the Setouchi Trienna
En Kitchen is a community resource whose aim is to explore the Setouchi Islanders relationship with their consumer and agricultural byproducts. Inspired by the simple island lifestyle philosophy, our goal is to eliminate the use of plasticware during the Setouchi Triennale with a sustainable alternative. Over one million art visitors voyage to the islands during the Triennale with an appreciation for famous art installations and local indulgences. By transforming local nature into a material resource En Kitchen will rid over one million plastic waste during the Triennale. En Kitchen uses only consumer and agricultural byproducts that are produced on the islands and then ultimately returned back into the land to nourish it. Our sustainable “island ware” serves as the embodiment of the islands, inspired by the form language of the local architecture, produced by the local islanders and enjoyed by all.
