Rise-Moving Forward
Growing plants without fertile soil and water, using only human urine as a liquid source.
Cities are expanding at an unimaginable fast pace and the fields once dedicated to agricultural production are progressively replaced for industry and roads. Causing the loss of half of the topsoil on the planet in the last 150 years, that once was fertile, full of nutrients and water, but now it’s almost gone. Today agriculture consumes 70% of the total amount of water used every year by humanity (3.8 trillion meters of water). Rise is an intelligent carpet made of 100% natural materials containing local seeds, liquid filters and other materials that make possible growing plants without fertile soil and water in non-fertile zones, using only human urine as a liquid source. Its functionality is simple; the urine goes through a sanitation process where it will dissolve the components that we do not need. Once the liquid has reached the polyacrylate, the textile will hold up the purified liquid rich in phosphorus from where the plants can take their nutrients once it is needed.
