JamiiPay
A digital tool allowing Ethiopian savings groups to capture their data and gain access to loans.
JamiiPay is developing a platform for people at the base of the pyramid to build credit history and gain access to financial services - even if they don't have ID. We start in Ethiopia by capturing data from local savings groups and giving them assess to loans from local banks and MFIs via our platform. Over time, we will build functionalities for users to deposit, send and withdraw money. Our service is facilitated by agents so it is available for people who don't own a phone AND we are building an identification-verification function that will allow people without formal ID access to financial service. Access to loans is one of the most important factors for bringing people out of extreme poverty, ending hunger and ensuring basic health. We start in Ethiopia because here 47 billion adult lack both ID and bank account, but globally 2.6 billion people are financially underserved and 1 billion do not have formal ID. Financial inclusion is a primary enabler for 8 out of the 17 SDGs.
