Paroli
It is a communication tool which helps expecting migrant women in the Netherlands and their midwives
The pregnancy journey in the Netherlands can be particularly challenging for migrant expecting mothers. The moment of exchange with their midwife is a critical point for an intervention aiming at supporting a positive and healthy pregnancy experience. Paroli is a tangible interaction tool which has the goal of supporting this exchange. It consists of an overview and tokens, which can be used to track and express things. The tool can be used by the mother at home and can be brought to the meetings with the midwife, offering a physical representation of the concerns and thoughts of the expecting mother, and allowing for a tangible mean of interaction. Paroli was envisioned in connection with a digital system and was used as a research tool. It disclosed possible points for future interventions, for example making responsibilities and expectations in the Dutch health care system clear, and was furthermore an exploration of how designers can tackle complex societal challenges like this.
