LIVSRUM - A Cancer Counselling Center
A new cancer counselling center - designed as a cluster of seven small houses
The vision is to create a homely, open and welcoming house. To create a space that is more home than an institution. A modern and yet familiar house that provides a clear alternative to the sterile and functional hospital environment. Rather than creating a traditional uniform building the functions are shaped into 7 small houses promoting human scale, richness and variation in the overall spatial experience. Similar to monasteries the careful layout features interlocking rooms that wrap around two central courtyards - one where you sit and meditate in silence and one that promotes physical activity and social interaction. Each house has its own specific program and together they form a coherent sequence of different spaces which include functions such as library, kitchen, conversation rooms, lounge, workshop, gym and wellness area.
