Alalau
a method for pre-cooling milk without electricity
Alalau is a low tech and low cost cold chain system designed for dairy farmers in rural Peru. The project is a response to modern cold chain technologies which are poorly matched to the conditions of cattle ranchers in the Peruvian Andes. Alalau provides a method for pre-cooling milk without electricity. This allows the farmers to transport their product from the farm to the processing plant without fear of contamination. By providing an affordable method of improving the quality and consistency of milk produced in rural communities, Alalau has the potential to make a positive impact on its users’ physical and financial health.
