Sauna Habits
A More Sustainable Sauna Stove
The typical sauna stove uses a high heat, high pollution method of heating that can be harmful to frequent users. Sauna Habits adapts the airflow model of the large masonry heater to provide a high heat, low pollution sauna stove. Taking the circular form of the masonry stove, Sauna Habits reduces the heat waste by forcing the combustible gases and particles to swirl around inside the stove before exiting the chimney. The core of the heater is made from fireproof concrete, and is able to reach temperatures high enough to achieve almost total wood combustion. The properties of this concrete allow it to accumulate and radiate heat for an extended period, using less wood. The Sauna Habits stove takes a vital element of Finnish culture and reformulates it into an exemplar of ecological awareness.
