Wireframe
High Social Impact for a Low-Cost Wind Turbine
The Wireframe program helps people in developing countries to build and maintain affordable wind turbines, in order to generate enough electricity and set up an essential communication network. This allows them to talk to each other via radio, warn the next village in case of an emergency, share weather forecasts, and also have light after sunset. At first these turbines can be built from available parts lying around, with some extra 3D printed components. The system’s important aspect is that it makes users gradually self-sufficient and independent. After training, users will be able to build and maintain Wireframe's from recycled materials – this results in accelerated development of the grid, and more villages and households that are ready for Internet service provided by organizations such as Internet.org.
