Fortune City is managing your money into a game where you’re the head honcho of a thriving metropolis, complete with kaleidoscopic landscapes and shiny gold coins. As you start logging your expenses, the app lets you swap each transaction for a building, the structure of which depends on your spending category — think bus stations for Tube tickets and burger joints for restaurants receipts. You get a maximum of five buildings a day and you can move them around to create a personalised city. It covers 10 different categories, from transport to entertainment, and you can view your balance weekly, monthly or seasonally to keep track of your finances over the long and short term. You can differentiate between cash and credit-card expenses, and it’s available in various languages and currencies.
