Small medical device that determines in 8 -10 hours at the point of care the most effective treatment for urinary tract infections (UTI)
Device to test antibiotic susceptiblity getting results in shorter time than conventional lab
UTI is a common disease having a significant healthcare burden as almost 50 % of the global population will experience a UTI at some point in their lives. (Trends in Pharmacological Sciences xx(2011)1-7), The problem is critical in developing countries and rural zones: at least 80 % of patients do not receive diagnosis neither treatment as they can not acces to health care services, Diagnochip developed The Rapid Antibiotic Sensitivity Kit, which is compossed by: 1.- A base with 9 microwells containing diferent antibiotics, culture media and a dye to indicate antibiotic susceptibility. 2.- A multi dispenser pipette with 9 channels that fit with the 9 micro wells of the base. To run the test it is enough with to mix 3 drops of urine with saline solution, incubate it at the point of care and then read the results. At the starting, the micro well are yellow color, so a change to violet, means that the antibiotic is not correct
