My name is Bianca Munoz and I am an environmental and furniture designer. I was born in Concepcion- Chile which is known by their reiterated forest fires that threatens human lives, flora, fauna and environmental care. I have allways been travelling around Chile´s national parks, that is why I started to develop this interest for helping to conserve the forests and help as a designer with the horrible fire situation that I had seen and lived every year.

Improve the reforestation system after devastating forest fires by making it faster and less invasiv
Chile is a country that every year faces hundreds of forest fires all along the central and southern area. In 2017 we experienced the biggest fire in our history with a total of 366.519 affected hectares (most are native species). Sometimes the intensity of fires make it impossible for the forest to recover by itself (erosion precludes the appropiate absorption of rainwater and non-existance of seeds) . We are looking to improve nowadays reforestation systems by helping the forest to get over the erosion and recuperate in the less invasive way. Every year the country faces a big problem: the supply of plants for the reforestation does not cover the demand. That is why we designed a system compound by two biodegradable resin "cones" : one has the native species seeds, soil and fertilizer (basic items to help the forest to recover by itself). The second is a conduit that helps the rain water to reach the inner layer giving it the humidity it needs and helping with the erosion situation.
