Dresden Optics
Dresden. Radical change in prescription eyewear. Interchangeable & affordable eyewear for everyone.
According to the Brien Holden Vison Institute, it is estimated that currently 2 billion people (2010) are diagnosed with Myopia (short- or near-sightedness). Research shows that it will grow to a staggering 2.6 billion by 2020 and 4.8 billion by 2050 which equals roughly half of the global population. It affects many school-aged children and is fast becoming a major public health issue of our time as most of them do not have access to or funds for proper eye care. In 2015, Dresden embarked on a challenging project to design and develop a more functional, versatile and dependable eyewear system and deliver it via an entirely new service framework. The intention was to manufacture the frames locally using recycled materials and offer the frames at an affordable price point including high-quality lenses from German manufacturer Karl Zeiss. Using an interchangeable and modular frame system enables customers to choose their own colour scheme and all components are replaceable.
