Home Bioreactor
The CellPod is a re-designed bioreactor that enables any one to grow plant cells for food at home.
Urbanisation and the environmental burden caused by agriculture are creating the need to develop new ways of producing food - CellPod is one of them.
The CellPod is a re-designed bioreactor that enables any one to grow plant cells for food at home. So far, cell lines from Arctic bramble cells, cloudberry cells and stone bramble cells has been tested to grow in to the CellPod. The bioreactor also enables the production of healthy food from plants other than traditional food crops, such as birch.
It grows fresh plant cells as batch cultures. A pre-packed cartridge contains a seed-culture and all what the cells need to grow. CellPod will provide the culture with water, air and light. In approximately a week the cells have multiplied to the maximum density and it is time to harvest.
The home bioreactor redefines local and clean and enables the urban consumers to become prosumers. With the CellPod, every season is the growing season.
