KADO - A social game to make change
A social game that nurtures confidence and the belief in a better future through play.
KADO is the result of a co-design process with 30 children at Sera’s Caring Place, a house for orphans and street children in Uganda. We experienced how the children were completely unaware of their talents and competencies and how that inhibits them from doing well on their own when they have to leave the care house after turning eighteen.
KADO meet this challenge by facilitating the sharing of compliments and individual reflection upon own talents and competencies. It is simple to play, cheap to produce, and can easily be scaled according to the context. The game is shaped as an alternative CV – a personal book full of good words from the other players. When competencies and skills become concrete and visible, it makes it easier to relate to and act on. This encourages the children to talk about dreams and goals and creates the foundation for realizing their full potential, which helps the children to do well in the future.
